So of course I saved some favorites for last. My favorite reference:
Luis Sojo in the rain
I had heard this one many times over many years before I figured out where he got the nickname. Click on the link. It's a great song, a wonderful reference. I can't believe I had heard this song so many times before I realized it's where Chris Berman's nickname for Luis Sojo came from.
And my all-time favorite:
Chuck New Kids on Knoblauch
Enough said.
This is a real, definitive list. I got a few of mine from here. I think it isn't really up-to-date because there aren't many football players on it, but it's very extensive. Also some of the players' names are simply wrong. I've never heard of Scott Blauser, but even if he did exist, that probably should be Braves shortstop Jeff Blauser. But, hey, how can I not link to a web page that mentions Kevin Tapani and Dion James? I mean, when was the last time you heard those names?
